Toph Beck: Pick Best Move
An immersive experience by Toph Beck
TWO WEEKENDS:
Friday November 22, 2019: 6pm to 10pm
Saturday November 23, 2019: 3pm to 9pm
Friday November 29, 2019: 3pm to 9pm
Saturday November 30, 2019: 3pm to 9pm
For 20 years, Toph Beck worked as a NASA documentary filmmaker and composer in Los Angeles before moving back to his hometown of Omaha in 2015. Currently living in the Old Market, Toph now focuses on his art: a combination of painting, drawing, music and film. His debut solo show, “Pick Best Move”, is designed as an immersive experience. Paintings and drawings will complement the gallery itself as an interactive game board, with a multi-screen projection installation on the lower level and an original soundscape played throughout the gallery. The exhibit draws connections between consumerism, casinos, and conspiracies. A repetitious mixture of abstract design, nonsensical graffiti, and satirical word play – all revolving around a faceless character – are unknowingly being manipulated in both thought and action. “Pick Best Move” is at Split Gallery for two weekends. Opening night is Friday, November 22nd and closing is Black Friday weekend.
Gallery note: This exhibition took place over the course of two weekends and the show evolved between the first and second weekends to include even more of the artist’s vision, extending the visual imagery and ideas in the artwork into the gallery itself. The images below are not chronological.
