Remember when starting a blog was the big thing to do? Everyone was a blogger and self-publishing exploded. Then people learned just how hard it is to post consistently, create engaging content, and actually write the words for people to read.
Yeah, I remember. I also know that for all the good intentions I’ve had for posting consistently, I just haven’t done it. Too many other irons in the fire, and I had to figure out some other Split stuff before I could really entertain getting back to blog posts.
The good news is that I’ve now crossed a bunch of other things off the list and am excited to tell everyone about how things are going at Split Gallery.
Here’s what some upcoming posts will cover:
- New Website Updates
- Notes and Observations During COVID
- Gallery Updates
- What We’ve Learned So Far
Once the posts are published, they will be linked above.
Here’s a summary of what’s ahead:
Website Updates
We’ve just posted a fully rebuilt website that looks/works better across the board but particularly on mobile. We’ve also added images (and some video) of almost every single show we’ve ever hosted. It’s really fun looking through the past events. As of this post, we’ve had 34 public events since we opened in 2018. And yeah, we’re still sore about the whole COVID thing. Which leads us to…
Notes and Observations During COVID
COVID really sucked/sucks. We were basically closed for a year because nobody could get together and Artists were hit pretty hard. But the break gave us time to reflect and look at what we could do to be ready when we all figured out how things were going to work again. Taking breaks is always a good way to assess where you’re at, and a good way to get a fresh perspective once the break is over. We’re grateful to have made it through and very excited about getting back into the swing of things. There’s a little more clarity to the vision thanks to the break.
Gallery Updates
Since we had a little extra time on our hands, we finally got around to making some updates at the gallery that had been on the list for a while. Most of it has been in the business/operations side of things, but there are some physical improvements and updates we’ve made that we think Artists will really appreciate.
What We’ve Learned So Far
We are very up front about how we view the entire idea of Split Gallery as a collaboration between the gallery and the Artist. We’re also happy to be as transparent about everything as we can. We’re here to learn from the Artists in our community and use that input to guide the decisions we make regarding Split. This is a community gallery, so we always appreciate learning how we can best serve Artists. It has been interesting to reflect on how that philosophy and our approach have evolved over time.
I’m sure there will be plenty of other topics that come up along the way. Hopefully it won’t take as long to post about it next time. But… time is what this is all about. We saw our time shift from the ragged rat race to the repetition of lockdown. Then we saw waves of infection clash with waves of struggle and sprinkled with glimmers of hope. Everyone’s having a hard time in different ways, and we’ve all missed the good times with friends. Time to make the website updates and do the blog posts. Time to get rolling again.
So yeah… it is about time. Let’s make the most of it.
Can’t wait to see you at Split.
